Feasting on God’s Word
The Bible is God’s written Word — a collection of 66 books inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is not a textbook to be studied but a living Word that speaks to us today. “The word of God is alive and active” (Hebrews 4:12).
Why Read the Bible?
- To know God: Scripture reveals His character, His heart, and His ways
- To grow in faith: “Faith comes from hearing the message” (Romans 10:17)
- To be transformed: “All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16)
- To find guidance: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105)
Where to Start
If you are new to Bible reading, try these entry points: The Gospel of Mark (short and fast-paced), The Gospel of John (deep and theological), Genesis (the beginning of the story), Psalms (honest prayers and songs), and 1 John (an encouraging letter about love).
Tips for Consistent Reading
- Use a reading plan — many are available online
- Read at the same time each day to build a habit
- Ask two questions: What does this teach me about God? What does this teach me about myself?
- Don’t get discouraged by difficult passages — keep going
- Discuss what you read with other believers
