God as Creator
Before anything else existed, God was. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). This opening sentence of Scripture sets the stage for everything: the universe is not an accident, and we are not cosmic orphans. We are created by a personal, purposeful God who spoke light into darkness and called it good.
God Is Holy, Love, and Justice
These three attributes of God work together beautifully:
- Holy — God is set apart, utterly pure, unlike anything else in existence. Isaiah saw Him and cried out, “Woe is me!” (Isaiah 6:5). His holiness is the foundation of worship.
- Love — “God is love” (1 John 4:8). This isn’t just something God does; it’s who He is. His love is unconditional, sacrificial, and reaches out to us before we ever reach for Him.
- Just — God doesn’t look the other way at evil. He makes things right. “The Lord is a God of justice” (Isaiah 30:18). His justice and mercy meet at the cross.
God Is Merciful and Personal
Here’s the incredible truth: the God who created galaxies also knows your name. He is not a distant, impersonal force. He is a Father who runs to meet His prodigal children (Luke 15:20). He is the Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one lost sheep (Matthew 18:12). He is the God who says, “I have called you by name; you are Mine” (Isaiah 43:1).
You don’t need to clean yourself up before you come to Him. You come as you are, and He meets you right there. That’s who God is.
