Most Christians are familiar with 1 and 2 Maccabees from the Apocrypha, but few know that the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church preserves three additional Maccabean books, known collectively as Meqabyan (or Ethiopic Maccabees). These are not translations of the familiar Greek Maccabees — they are distinct works with their own unique character and message.
